Khaberni - New Hebrew reports state that the occupation insists on its refusal to release the Palestinian doctor Hossam Abu Safia, but has placed him on the reserve list in case any changes occur in the list of Palestinian prisoners being released.
This comes after reports that the occupation made a slight change to the list of Palestinian prisoners scheduled for release, which includes canceling the release of seven minors from Gaza, adding two women from the sector, and refusing to release two individuals, one of whom had been previously released and then re-arrested.
The reports noted that placing Abu Safia on the reserve list was the result of pressure exerted by mediators.
Israel will not release doctors Abu Safia and Hamra
In this context, the American network "CNN" reported that the occupation will not release the prominent Palestinian doctors Hossam Abu Safia and Marwan Hamra as part of the exchange deal.
The network added that "a source in Hamas" told them that the occupation informed the mediators that it would not release the two doctors, who were arrested during the war.
Who is Hossam Abu Safia?
The Israeli army arrested Hossam Abu Safia, the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza Strip, in late December. His lawyer confirmed to the media that he is "in very poor condition".
Abu Safia is 51 years old, specializes in pediatrics, and was arrested on suspicion of belonging to "Hamas," according to claims by the Israeli military.
Amnesty International described his arrest as "arbitrary" and "part of a systematic oppressive policy adopted by the Israeli authorities against medical teams in Gaza".
With his repeated calls for help through social media and media outlets, Abu Safiya has become a symbol of the collapse of the healthcare system in the war-torn sector.
His hospital was shut down following an Israeli attack in December, during which the military said it arrested "240 terrorists from Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and other suspects involved in terrorist activities".
Abu Safia was among the most prominent voices that spoke to the media about Israeli violations against hospitals and patients, and he refused to leave the hospital despite the bombings on it, only to be arrested immediately afterwards.
