Mai Farouq My History Reflects My Artistic Journey

Khaberni - Egyptian singer Mai Farouq, after an artistic career that spanned more than twenty years, released her first music album titled "My History". Throughout her working years, Farouq limited herself to performing songs by giants of Arabic music, such as Umm Kulthum, Mohammed Abdel Wahab, and Abdel Halim Hafez, before deciding to release an album under her own name.

In her conversation with "Al Arabiya.net" and "Al Hadath.net", Mai Farouq revealed the behind-the-scenes of her artistic life and the details of releasing her album, indicating that her steps towards stardom were slow. Despite her desire to present new songs with her voice, production circumstances prevented this until she was able to achieve her dream a few months ago.

Concurrent with her celebration of her marriage to the Egyptian actor Mohamed El Amrousy, Mai Farouq released the first song of her album "Barako", which she sang at the wedding party. The song achieved widespread popularity, followed by the song "Sultana" which also met with great success.

After her marriage, Mai Farouq found great support from her husband, whom she described as her biggest supporter and partner in her recent successes. He helped her in choosing the songs of the album and oversaw its execution in cooperation with major poets and composers, such as Tamer Hosny, Aziz El Shafei, Mady, Tamer Ashour, and Nader Abdullah.

Mai Farouq chose nine songs to form her first album "My History", and selected a song by this name to be the title of the album, as it addresses the details of her journey and artistic life.

Regarding the title "Sultana" which the audience gave her after releasing a song by this name, Mai Farouq stated that she does not care much for titles despite her happiness with it. She clarified that she did not intend to present the song for the audience to bestow this title upon her.

Mai Farouq revealed the behind-the-scenes of the song "Sultana", confirming that she did not choose it herself. She was surprised when the composer Mady informed her just days before her wedding that he had prepared a new song as a gift for the occasion. When she went to record it in the studio, she discovered that it bore the name "Sultana".

Regarding her resignation from the Egyptian Opera House, Mai Farouq affirmed that this place holds a significant status in her heart, being the first witness to her success and fame, and the first to introduce her to the audience. Although many Arab singers are pleased to stand on its stage, her resignation came because she was unable to continuously fulfill the packed schedule of concerts, being tied to numerous concerts inside and outside of Egypt. She emphasizes her constant effort to attend major events at the Opera House, and she is preparing to perform a concert as part of the Arab Music Festival launching soon.

Regarding her family’s presence during the celebration of her album, Mai Farouq said that she only feels happy with them, and she is reassured by having her sons by her side. Thus, it was necessary for them to attend this moment, one of the most important moments of her life.
