Khaberni - Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune revealed that there was a plan to bomb the Palace of Nations in the Algerian capital during its hosting of the event announcing the establishment of the Palestinian state in 1988.

This was stated in a speech before the senior leaders of the Algerian army at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense, broadcast on state television last night.

Tebboune said, highlighting his country's position on the Palestinian issue: Here in Algeria, the State of Palestine was declared despite the risks that existed back then... and you, army officers, know what was being schemed against Algeria, including the bombing of the Palace of Nations, without mentioning who planned the bombing.

On November 15, 1988, Algeria hosted at the Palace of Nations in the capital, the ninth session of the Palestinian National Council, during which the late President Yasser Arafat declared the establishment of the State of Palestine.

For the first time, Algeria officially announces, from the head of state, that there was a plan to bomb the venue of the event announcing the establishment of the State of Palestine.

Over the past years, unofficial platforms have circulated information indicating that Israel planned to bomb the Palace of Nations in Algeria at the moment of the declaration of the State of Palestine in 1988, using fighter jets, but the Algerian army thwarted the plan by deploying an air defense system and advanced radar devices, along with placing intercept fighters within the airspace boundaries.

In this context, Tebboune emphasized that Algeria did its duty towards Palestine, out of conscience and support for justice, as it hosted the Palestinian leadership and its head Yasser Arafat when conditions worsened in 1982.

He emphasized that despite this threat, Algeria did not retreat nor compromise because its conscience is with Palestine.

He added that Algeria's stance on Palestine has not changed and will not change, despite our friendship with some countries that have completely opposite policies.

The Algerian president renewed his description of the Israeli war on Gaza as a genocide that was committed for the first time in the history of humanity, in front of the eyes of the world.

At the same time, he affirmed that the only solution to the conflict is the establishment of an independent State of Palestine on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
