Khaberni - A nutrition expert warned that many people unknowingly sabotage their fat-burning process during sleep, indicating that choosing the right nighttime drink plays a crucial role in the success of weight loss attempts.

Professor Franklin Joseph, Medical Director at Dr Frank's Weight Loss Clinic, clarified that the ideal drink before sleep is not lemon water, green tea, or a protein shake, but unsweetened natural kefir, a fermented milk drink rich in probiotics, light protein, and active bio compounds, according to the Mirror newspaper.

He added that kefir supports digestive health, maintains stable blood sugar levels, and enhances recovery during sleep, making it an ideal choice for those seeking to lose weight or shed stubborn belly fat.

Joseph pointed out that unsweetened kefir has a low glycemic index, meaning it doesn't cause a sudden insulin spike, unlike some drinks mistakenly believed to be healthy, such as banana juice or flavored yogurt drinks, which sometimes contain hidden sugars that hinder fat burning and affect sleep quality.

Recent studies have shown that fermented foods like kefir can improve insulin sensitivity, reduce inflammation, and enhance the balance of gut microbes, positively impacting weight loss and digestive health, in addition to improving sleep quality through what is known as the "gut-brain axis".

Joseph recommends consuming 100 to 150 ml of natural unsweetened kefir about 30 to 60 minutes before bedtime, avoiding flavored or sweetened varieties, and not consuming it with foods high in sugars or carbohydrates, affirming: "Your body should be in a state of calm and readiness for nighttime repair. A small cup of kefir is simple—yet effective."

Joseph concluded by saying that kefir alone will not burn fat, but it boosts results for those following a balanced diet and exercising regularly.
