Khaberni - Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the civil defense in Gaza Strip, said that the level of destruction caused by the Israeli war on the sector is "beyond imagination", confirming that "the whole world will be shocked when it sees the extent of destruction in Gaza".
In the evening of Saturday, Basal added that about half a million Palestinians were surprised by their destroyed homes upon returning to the north of the sector, pointing out that "Israeli policy was clear in destroying all areas of the sector without exception".
He explained that since the ceasefire came into effect, rescue teams have retrieved bodies of about 150 martyrs, while there are still more than 10,000 missing under the rubble in various areas of the sector.
Basal confirmed that the civil defense "urgently needs heavy equipment to retrieve the bodies and the missing, and to bring in field hospitals to save the injured", noting that "life in Gaza has been exterminated, and it lacks any basic essentials for living".
The spokesperson for the civil defense called on the international community to "stand with Gaza and provide urgent assistance", pointing out that some areas "have turned into a desert devoid of any infrastructure".
He mentioned that more than half a million Palestinians have returned to Gaza city since the ceasefire began to take effect last Friday, while thousands of displaced people continue to return to the north of the sector.
