Egypt Ethiopia Manages the Renaissance Dam in an Uncontrolled Manner

Khaberni - The Egyptian Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced that Ethiopia is managing the Renaissance Dam in an uncontrolled manner, which led to the sudden discharge of large quantities of water towards the downstream countries, causing significant damage, according to a statement issued by the ministry today, Saturday.

The ministry said in its statement that "these developments confirm the validity of the warnings repeatedly issued by Egypt about the risks of unilateral management of the Ethiopian dam on the stability of the Nile River system," noting that Egypt is implementing an integrated plan to enhance the readiness of the water system to face any potential emergencies.

The ministry explained that the development works of the Toshka spillway and channel are part of a comprehensive plan aimed at improving efficiency and discharge capacity and enhancing the flexibility of water management, ensuring the protection of the High Dam and its stable operation, noting that the River Revenue Committee, which includes a group of experts and scientists in the fields of water resources management, hydrology, dam operation, and mathematical modeling, manages the decisions of the water system operation, based on real-time monitoring systems and modern hydrological forecasts.
The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation emphasized that the Egyptian state is monitoring the water situation with high accuracy and full readiness, and that all water actions are carried out according to precise scientific precautionary plans that ensure the fulfillment of water needs without any negative impact, with continued full coordination between state agencies to protect water resources and Egypt's entrenched rights in the Nile River.
