Trump calls Hamas leaders strong and very smart

Khaberni - U.S. President Donald Trump described the leaders of Hamas as "good negotiators, very strong and smart," following the agreement with Israel for prisoner exchanges and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

In response to a question from reporters about the guarantees provided to Hamas to ensure that Israel did not resume bombing after the prisoners were recovered, Trump said: "I spoke in a strong tone, the world there is strong, and they are people who are very strong and smart and good negotiators," adding: "They have many things, and if they utilize them, they will be very successful."

Trump confirmed that the Hamas leaders knew that any retaliation would be tremendous and unbearable, and they would not desire it, emphasizing that the agreement would hold because both parties were tired from fighting. He also mentioned that the reconstruction of Gaza would be assisted by wealthy countries in the region, without naming them.

Trump announced on Thursday that Israel and Hamas had reached the first phase of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange plan, after four days of indirect negotiations in Sharm el-Sheikh under the auspices of Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, and with American supervision.

Under the agreement, Israel will release 250 Palestinian prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment, in addition to about 1700 others arrested by Tel Aviv from the Gaza Strip after October 7, 2023.
