New York Attorney General Letitia James Charged with Fraud

Khaberni - A grand jury has indicted New York Attorney General Letitia James for fraud, who has been a long-time opponent of President Donald Trump and is a member of the Democratic Party.

The U.S. Department of Justice stated that criminal charges including bank fraud were filed against Attorney General James yesterday, Thursday, as the U.S. administration seeks to use its powers against those involved in investigations related to Trump or those who openly opposed his agenda.

Lindsey Halligan, the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, stated that James faced a charge related to bank fraud and another charge related to providing false statements to a lending institution.

The Justice Department has been investigating fraud allegations related to mortgages against her for a while. Halligan mentioned, "The charges in this case represent deliberate criminal acts and severe breaches of public trust."

The penalty for each charge could lead to up to 30 years in prison. James denied the validity of the accusations, stating they were baseless.

Trump has often vowed during his campaign to seek revenge after facing a large number of legal issues since the end of his first term in 2021. The Republican president has frequently accused James on social media and in political rallies, calling her "an enemy of the party."

James is one of the Democratic attorneys general who have filed lawsuits to prevent actions taken by the Trump administration. She gained fame by filing a civil fraud lawsuit against Trump and his family’s real estate company in 2022. The case resulted in a fine of approximately 455 million dollars against Trump after the judge found that he had greatly exaggerated his net worth through fraud to deceive lenders.

The Government Shutdown

In related news, President Trump's administration started airing a video yesterday, Thursday, in airports across the country blaming the Democrats for the ongoing government shutdown, which has been in place for about 10 days, causing significant delays in flights.

About 13,000 air traffic controllers and approximately 50,000 Transportation Security Administration employees are still required to work during the government shutdown, but they are not receiving their salaries. They are scheduled to receive a partial salary next week for the work they did before the shutdown began.

A spokesman for the Department of Homeland Security confirmed that the video began being aired in American airports.

The video features Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem stating, "Democrats in Congress refuse to fund the federal government, and because of this, several of our operations have been affected, and most of our Transportation Security Administration employees are working without pay."

Democratic lawmakers are refusing to vote in favor of a Republican-proposed bill that would provide temporary government funding, because it does not include funds to support health insurance for low-income Americans.

Republican and Democratic leaders are exchanging accusations over responsibility for the shutdown that began on October 1st after Congress failed to approve new spending legislation.
