With a New Record Salah Carves His Name in African History

Khaberni - Egyptian international star Mohamed Salah continues his hobby of breaking records, after achieving a new record to add to his prolific record in the world of football.

Salah has now become the all-time leading scorer in the African qualifiers for the World Cup, after managing to score during his country's match against the host Djibouti team, on Wednesday, in the ninth round (penultimate) of the qualifiers for the World Cup 2026 in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, currently held in Casablanca, Morocco.

The "Egyptian Pharaoh" has raised his scoring tally in the World Cup qualifiers to 19 goals, thus breaking the record as the top scorer in the African continent's World Cup qualifiers in fewer matches.

The 19 goals of the Liverpool star were scored in 34 matches he played in the qualifiers. He surpasses by a single goal his closest pursuer, Algerian Islam Slimani, who scored 18 goals in 37 matches he played with his national team in the qualifiers, as well as Ivorian Didier Drogba, who also scored 18 goals in 47 matches, and Cameroonian Samuel Eto'o and Burkina Faso's Moumouni Dagano, who both recorded the same number of goals after playing 44 matches each.

The goal scored by Salah for the Egyptian team in the 14th minute of the match against Djibouti was his 60th in the Pharaohs' jersey, enhancing his position as the second top scorer in the team's history, just 8 goals behind Hossam Hassan, the current coach of the Egyptian national team, who tops the list.

Mohamed Salah has further reinforced his leadership at the top of Egypt's World Cup qualifiers scoring list, 5 goals ahead of retired star Mohamed Aboutrika, who scored 14 goals, noting that this was his eighth goal in the current qualifiers, sharing the lead with Gabon's Denis Bouanga.
