Khaberni - Israeli President Isaac Herzog praised the role of American President Donald Trump in mediating to reach an agreement between Israel and Hamas to end the war in Gaza, saying that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts.
Herzog wrote on the X platform today, Thursday: "There is no doubt that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize for that," describing the agreement as "an opportunity for reconciliation, recovery, and opening a new horizon of hope for our region."
Trump had earlier announced that indirect negotiations in Egypt had made significant progress.
Under the first phase of the American peace plan, all hostages held in Gaza will be released, and Israeli forces will withdraw to an agreed-upon line.
Hamas confirmed its participation in the agreement.
In a speech he recently gave at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Trump said that he has already ended several wars since taking office earlier this year, and that he should be honored with the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Committee is scheduled to announce this year's winner of the prize tomorrow, Friday.
