Egypt Announces New Closing Times for Restaurants and Malls

Khaberni - In the context of escalating economic and geopolitical tensions in the region, Mostafa Madbouly, the Egyptian Prime Minister, unveiled a new package of decisions aimed at rationalizing electricity consumption and organizing work to face current challenges and achieve greater energy efficiency.

New closing times for shops and restaurants in Egypt
The Prime Minister announced new closing times starting from Saturday, March 28 for a month, as follows:
Daily closing: 9 PM.
Thursday and Friday: Work extends until 10 PM.
These decisions include commercial stores, malls, and restaurants, in a move aimed at reducing electrical loads during peak hours.

Turning off illuminated road signs
Among the new measures, it was decided to turn off all illuminated advertisements on roads, as part of a comprehensive plan to reduce energy consumption, especially in unnecessary uses.

Early closing of the governmental district
The Prime Minister also announced the complete closure of the governmental district at 6 PM, in an additional step aimed at reducing electricity consumption within official institutions.

The purpose of the decisions: Rationalizing energy without disrupting life
These measures aim to balance the continuation of daily activities and reducing electricity consumption while maintaining orderly life flow without significant impacts on essential services.

Madbouly also revealed a new government direction to study the implementation of partial remote work within state institutions, in a step aimed at rationalizing energy consumption and maintaining economic stability.

Remote work proposal for two days a week
The Prime Minister explained that the government is studying the implementation of remote work for one or two days per week in various governmental bodies, within a flexible system aimed at:
Reducing electricity and energy consumption within institutions.
Alleviating pressure on facilities and services.
Maintaining the efficiency of government performance.

Exemptions for vital sectors
Madbouly assured that this system will not include some vital sectors, which require full attendance to ensure the continuity of services, among them are:
Factories and industrial facilities.
Water and gas stations.
Healthcare facilities and hospitals.

The government is prepared for all scenarios
Madbouly emphasized that the state is prepared to deal with various scenarios in light of the conditions currently affecting the region, asserting that the primary goal is:
Maintaining market stability.
Securing energy needs.
Avoiding any additional economic pressures on Egyptians.
