Khaberni - Sudanese referee Younis Yass, known as "Abu Al-Jaz", died at his birthplace, Al-Nahda neighborhood in the city of Al-Daein, the capital of East Darfur State, western Sudan, following an armed robbery incident.
An armed group stopped referee "Abu Al-Jaz" in front of his home in the city of Al-Daein while he was accompanied by a group of young men.
According to news reports, the gunmen ordered everyone present to hand over their mobile phones. According to eyewitnesses, referee Younis refused to hand over his mobile phone, and the gunmen immediately shot him. "Abu Al-Jaz" was injured, fell to the ground, and was rushed to Al-Daein Teaching Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
The murder of “Abu Al-Jaz” found widespread condemnation from the sports community in East Darfur State.
The local football federation, along with the refereeing committee, expressed deep sorrow for the departure of the national referee, who is considered one of the most prominent sports figures in the region.
"Abu Al-Jaz" had an outstanding professional career and his loss is a significant loss for the sports community in Sudan.
