Khaberni - Middle East University has officially announced its withdrawal from the "Times" global and regional university rankings, as this decision was due to the lack of clarity in the ranking methodology and the mechanisms for calculating the indicators it relies on, in addition to this methodology undergoing frequent changes that raised questions about its transparency and fairness in measuring the actual performance of academic institutions.
The president of the university, Professor Dr. Salam Al-Muhadin emphasized that Middle East University believes in the need to develop global evaluation systems, provided that they are based on transparency, balance, and diversity in criteria, indicating that her decision does not mean a retreat from pursuing academic and research excellence but rather is in alignment with her vision in defending integrity and justice in international ranking systems.
Dr. Al-Muhadin explained that one of the main reasons for the withdrawal was the ranking’s introduction of a financial subscription system for participation in the sustainability ranking, which gave it a commercial nature that does not align with the values, goals, and vision of the university, thus diminishing the credibility of an objective evaluation of the institutions' commitment level to sustainable development goals.
