Khaberni - The Iranian authorities have reported to the World Organisation for Animal Health about an outbreak of highly contagious avian flu in the north of the country, resulting in the death of dozens of birds.
The World Organisation for Animal Health announced today, Tuesday, October 7, based on an official report from the Iranian authorities, that Iran has reported a case of an outbreak of the highly contagious "H5N1" strain of avian flu among poultry in the north of the country.
The organization, headquartered in Paris, added that the outbreak resulted in the death of 10 birds out of a group of 90, while local authorities slaughtered all the remaining birds as part of the preventive measures adopted to limit the spread of the infection.
This development comes at a time when many countries are experiencing repeated waves of avian flu virus spread in recent years, which has affected large numbers of domestic birds around the world. This has led to disruptions in food supply chains and increased prices of animal products, alongside heightened concerns about the potential for the virus to be transmitted to humans.
The organization confirmed that monitoring the outbreak of viruses among animals remains an international priority to reduce health and economic risks, with continuous coordination between countries to monitor any new mutations in the virus that may threaten global health security.
