Source Hamas Agrees to Surrender Weapons

Khaberni - A Palestinian source revealed on Tuesday that Hamas agreed to surrender arms to an Egyptian-Palestinian body, during the indirect negotiations the movement is conducting with Israel in the Egyptian city of Sharm el-Sheikh, according to Sky News Arabia.

Hamas' weaponry was one of the major points of contention in previous efforts to stop the Gaza war, which is entering its third year.

The movement also agreed, according to the source, to allow any of its leaders who wish to do so to leave Gaza, and has requested American guarantees to prevent their prosecution.

The source added that Hamas demanded a ceasefire and a halt to Israeli aircraft operations over Gaza, to gather hostages within a week.

It is expected that Hamas will release 48 Israeli hostages, both alive and deceased, in the first phase of US President Donald Trump's plan to stop the Gaza war.

The source stated that Hamas "refuses the presence of (former British Prime Minister) Tony Blair as a governor in Gaza but agrees to him having a distant oversight role."

The movement "categorically" refused to hand over the sector to an international transitional committee, according to Trump’s plan.

According to the source, Hamas agreed to the entry of Palestinian security forces, which are trained in Egypt and Jordan, into the sector.

A delegation from Hamas, led by Khalil al-Haya, will handle the negotiation file with Israel through mediators, while a second team from the movement negotiates with the Palestinian Authority to hand over the administration of the sector to an administrative committee under the Palestinian government.
