Jordan An Initiative by the Minister of Interior to Reduce Dowries and Mourning Costs

Khaberni - Minister of Interior Mazen Al-Faraya directed a letter to the administrative governors presenting a new initiative to restrict the mourning houses to just one day instead of three, and to refrain from inviting political figures to head the gatherings, in addition to reducing marriage dowries to ease economic burdens on the youth.

The initiative, which was reviewed by Khaberni, includes limiting wedding celebrations to the minimum extent and not exaggerating in hosting large invitations, and specifying gatherings with modest numbers, similar to the customs previously practiced in tribal tradition, without inviting whether active or retired political figures to head these gatherings.

It also included that mourning homes should last only one day instead of three, and limiting food provision to the family of the deceased.

Faraya has requested the administrative governors to showcase the initiative to the executive and security councils, provincial councils, associations, clubs, civil society institutions, sheikhs, dignitaries, village heads, influential individuals, and citizens in general, for signing its contents.
