Study 4 Factors Determine the Risk of Heart Attacks and Strokes

Khaberni - A joint scientific study between Northwestern University in the US and Yonsei University in South Korea has identified the most common factors that contribute to the increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.

The study's results, which were published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology (JACC), indicate that the four primary factors, which allow for predicting cardiovascular diseases, are high blood pressure, elevated levels of cholesterol in the blood, high sugar levels, and smoking.

The study showed that 99 percent of the patients who suffered from a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure had at least one of the four mentioned risk factors beforehand.

The results also revealed that 93 percent of the cases had two or more of these factors, reflecting how interconnected these indicators are in causing serious heart diseases.

The study pointed out that women under the age of sixty were most likely to have these combined factors, found in nearly every case, underscoring the need for precise medical follow-up for young women in these age groups.

In a comment on the study's findings, Professor Philip Greenland, head of the research team, explained that these data decisively refute the belief that heart diseases can appear suddenly without any precursors.

He confirmed that warning signs of cardiovascular diseases are mostly present beforehand, noting that early diagnosis and regular monitoring of risk factors can contribute to preventing these serious conditions.
