Khaberni - Dr. Thomas Gunter said, "Nosebleeds occur when the tiny blood vessels in the richly vascular nasal mucous membrane are damaged, which can be due to various causes such as forcefully blowing the nose, the entry of foreign bodies or external irritants," and most of the bleeding takes place at the front of the nose, which is usually harmless.

The German general practitioner added that many people begin by tilting their heads back to stop the nosebleed, believing that this helps keep the blood in the body and prevents it from dripping onto clothes and other items. However, this method is incorrect as it can lead to blood entering the stomach and causing vomiting.

Two methods
To stop a nosebleed quickly and effectively, Gunter recommended applying one or both of the following methods:

- Cooling the neck: Placing ice packs wrapped in a towel or a piece previously wetted with cold water on the neck stimulates a reflex response that causes the blood vessels in the nose to constrict.

- Pinching the nostrils together: This pressure also helps to stop the nosebleed. To do this, sit with your head slightly forward, then pinch the nostrils together with your thumb and index finger for about ten minutes. During this time, breathe through your mouth.

Visit a doctor.. When?
Dr. Gunter advised getting a nosebleed checked by a doctor if it persists for more than 20 minutes or occurs regularly.

It is also advisable to visit a doctor if the bleeding is primarily at the back of the nose, meaning the blood flows mainly through the throat.
