Khaberni - A spokesperson for the German government said that Chancellor Friedrich Merz, in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, called for talks in Egypt to quickly lead to an agreement to end the war in Gaza.
The spokesperson added in a statement, "The Chancellor explicitly supports President (American Donald) Trump's peace plan. Nearly two years after the attack (...) on October 7, 2023, this represents the best opportunity for achieving peace for the hostages and the sector."
The spokesperson added, "The announced withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza is the right step. The talks in Egypt should now lead to a quick ending (...) and a comprehensive release of hostages and the full arrival of humanitarian aid and disarmament (of Hamas)."
President Donald Trump, in an interview with CNN, said he would take decisive actions against Hamas, promising a "complete end" to it if it decides to stay in power.
The American Axios website revealed details of the phone call that took place between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following Hamas's Saturday night response to the American plan.
Trump said that Israel agreed to the initial withdrawal line, which was informed to Hamas and Israel, after negotiations, noting that "when Hamas confirms this, a ceasefire will take effect immediately, and the exchange of prisoners and missing persons will begin, and we will prepare the conditions for the next stage of withdrawal."
Hamas confirmed on Sunday that it is eager to start "immediately" the process of exchanging detainees in Gaza for Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, with both sides preparing for indirect talks on Monday in Egypt following the movement's approval to release the detainees in Gaza as part of President Trump's proposal to end the war.
Several Arab and Muslim countries considered Hamas’s approval to release the detainees within the framework of Trump’s plan as a "real opportunity" to end the war in the devastated sector.
