Jordan Collaboration between the Meteorological Department and the Maritime Authority in Preparation for Winter

Khaberni - In the framework of joint cooperation between the Jordanian Meteorological Department and the Jordanian Maritime Authority, and in preparation for the winter season and potential weather conditions affecting maritime navigation, a meeting was held today, Sunday, October 6, 2025, at the headquarters of the Jordanian Maritime Authority in Aqaba, attended by Engineer Omar Al-Dabbas, Director General of the Jordanian Maritime Authority, and Raed Rafeed Al Khattab, Director of the Jordanian Meteorological Department.

This meeting comes amidst the region experiencing rapid climate changes and extreme weather phenomena, where methods to enhance technical and operational cooperation between the two entities were discussed, and a mechanism for permanent exchange of maritime and meteorological information was developed, in addition to establishing a protocol for early warning of weather conditions that may impact maritime safety in the Gulf of Aqaba.

It was also agreed to link the Jordanian Maritime Authority to the weather data system of the Meteorological Department to ensure the accurate and immediate delivery of weather information, alongside working on developing a joint digital platform for data exchange and enhancing coordination in monitoring weather conditions.

This cooperation aims to enhance the level of preparedness and effective response to emergency weather conditions, and to support the safety of maritime activities in the Gulf of Aqaba and the Jordanian territorial waters.
