A Critical Transitional Phase AlShar checks the progress of the elections

Khaberni - On Sunday, Syrian President Ahmad al-Shar', inspected the conduct of the People's Council elections in the capital, Damascus, affirming that these elections represent "an important step in the course of the transitional phase" the country is undergoing after years of conflict.

Al-Shar' said in a brief speech during his tour of several polling stations: "Within a few months, we were able to enter a new electoral process, and Syrians are proud of transitioning from a phase of war and chaos to a phase of institutions and elections."

The Syrian President added that the task of building Syria is a shared responsibility among all its people, explaining that the current elections "come within the context of a political process aimed at consolidating stability and filling the constitutional vacuum in the country."

He pointed out that Syrian laws "need amendments to keep up with the requirements of the new phase," noting that "there is a set of pending laws that need to be voted on and implemented to ensure the continuation of the state-building process."

These elections are the first since the beginning of the transitional phase that was announced following political understandings among Syrian forces, and they are conducted under the supervision of the Supreme National Committee for Election Integrity, with the participation of observers from Arab and international organizations.

Since the morning hours, the polling stations in Damascus and several provinces have seen varying levels of turnout, with hundreds of candidates competing for 250 seats in the People's Council.
