Heart Attack in Cold Weather 5 Signs You Should Never Ignore

Khaberni - Heart attack cases become more common in winter, due to the stress on the heart caused by the cold weather.

Learn about 5 early warning signs you should not ignore this season to protect your heart health:

Chest pain or discomfort is the most dangerous warning sign of a heart attack and it's the most widespread. It can be described as pressure, tightness, heaviness, or squeezing in the middle or left side of the chest. During the winter, this suffering may be confused with acidity, indigestion, or simply feeling cold, although neglecting it could be life-threatening.

Shortness of breath from other warning indicators is difficulty breathing; especially during rest or light activity. In low temperatures, shortness of breath may mistakenly be attributed to the cold air, but it may indicate that the heart is exerting an effort to pump blood. If you suddenly experience difficulty breathing accompanied by chest pain, this is an emergency.

Unusual fatigue after performing simple activities, such as walking or climbing stairs, could be dangerous. In the winter, fatigue might be attributed to laziness, seasonal mood swings, and the absence of sunlight, yet excessive and unexplained fatigue can be an indicator of reduced blood flow to the heart. It is a common symptom in women during heart attacks.

Pain in other parts of the body does not necessarily have to be heart attack pain in the chest. It may spread to the shoulders, arms (especially the left arm), lower back, neck, jaw, or even the upper stomach. Muscle stiffness is more common in cold weather; however, the pain that occurs is often deep, widespread, and odd in its nature and quality; therefore, it cannot be ignored.

Cold sweats, nausea or dizziness are sudden symptoms of a heart attack. During winter, these might be confused with being cold or dehydrated, but with other indicative signs present, these conditions could signal a life-threatening situation. These symptoms indicate the heart's failure to pump enough blood to other parts of the body, such as the brain.
