Khaberni - Josep Maria Bartomeu, former president of FC Barcelona, has been accused of misusing his position and dishonest management during his six years at the helm of the Catalan club.
Bartomeu, president of Barcelona between 2014 and 2020, will be summoned to appear before a judge over secret commissions he granted without consulting his board of directors, notably in the transfer deal of Brazilian winger Malcom from Bordeaux to the club in 2018 for more than 40 million euros.
According to a legal document seen by "France Press", the public prosecutor accuses the former president of the club of "dishonest management" and causing damage to the club through neglecting the duties of care and loyalty imposed by his position.
The public prosecutor's office stated that it is particularly focusing on a number of "unjustified" financial transactions, which amount to several million euros.
In a statement sent to several media outlets, Bartomeu's lawyers acknowledged that their client may have made "mistakes", but they denounced the four unprecedented lawsuits currently targeting him, without evidence that the former president of Barcelona received any financial benefit from any of them.
