Khaberni - Khaled Elgendy, a member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Egypt, confirmed that the commonly used phrase "And God spared the believers the evil of fighting" is incorrect and not present in the Holy Quran.
This was mentioned during an episode of the program "Lest They Understand" on the "dmc" channel, where he explained that fighting in Islam is a necessary evil and not an end in itself. It is a sad and undesirable matter, but it becomes obligatory for self-defense or defense of honor, property, religion, or homeland.
Elgendy added that Islam does not recognize the idea of declaring war on the world, but prescribed fighting only for repelling aggression, citing the noble verse: "And fight in the way of Allah those who fight you, but do not commit aggression; for Allah does not love aggressors" (Al-Baqara: 190).
He emphasized that fighting in these cases represents the dignity of the believers, and that the decision to retaliate aggression is legitimate for protecting honor, religion, and homeland, affirming that the nation's strength and the unity of its people are the guarantee for its stability and the protection of its sanctities.
