Segment documented the incident Arrest of a drug promoter inside a pharmacy in Egypt

Khaberni - In an incident that sparked controversy on social media in Egypt, the Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of an employee at a pharmacy in Sharqia Governorate, for promoting drug pills, following the circulation of a video documenting the incident and sparking widespread interaction among users.

In the circulated clip, the voice of a person asking about a type of drug pills is heard while the pharmacy employee dealt with it in a routine manner reflecting repeated incidents of promoting and selling drugs within this pharmacy. Additionally, two other girls and a child appeared inside the pharmacy.

Exploiting the nature of her work
According to the ministry's statement last Wednesday evening, investigations led to identifying the mentioned pharmacy, where the suspect, who appeared in the video, was arrested with a quantity of drug pills in her possession. Upon confrontation, she admitted to possessing the seized items with the intent to trade, exploiting the nature of her work inside the pharmacy.

The investigations clarified that the two girls accompanying her in the clip, who are students, had no link to the criminal activity, and their presence coincided with the filming of the video without their involvement.

The Ministry of Interior confirmed that the necessary legal procedures were taken regarding the incident, with coordination with the competent authorities to close the pharmacy, as part of combating drug trafficking crimes.

Strict controls for dispensing some medications
It is noteworthy that the laws regulating medication circulation in Egypt prohibit dispensing or selling drugs listed under "drug schedules" except with strict controls, notably the presence of an approved medical prescription, and recording the dispensing details in official registers within pharmacies, to prevent misuse or illicit trafficking.

Violating these controls is considered a crime punishable by law, given the danger these substances pose to public health, and incorrect use can lead to addiction.
