Update to Google Maps Angers Users

Khaberni -Although the Google Maps app is still the preferred choice for millions of Android users, a recent update has triggered a wave of dissatisfaction after removing a feature that contributed to a smoother and safer driving experience.

In the Maps v25.28 update and the v25.29 beta version, Google removed the music control feature that used to appear at the bottom of the screen during navigation, making it difficult for users to control songs or podcasts while driving without being distracted from the road, according to a report published by "androidauthority" and viewed by "Al Arabiya Business".

Sudden Removal
Until recently, media controls were elegantly displayed at the bottom of Google Maps, allowing users to play songs, switch between them, or quickly open a music application like "YouTube Music" or "Spotify", all without leaving the navigation screen.

The feature had to be manually activated through the path:

"Settings > Navigation > Show media controls", and it was a smart solution that minimized the need to use the notification panel or switch between apps while driving.

But now, these options have disappeared, forcing drivers to exit the map interface whenever they want to control playback, which is a distraction and, in some cases, can increase the likelihood of accidents.

So far, Google has not confirmed whether this removal was deliberate or just a temporary glitch.

Interestingly, the feature still works on the Google Maps app for iOS, which opens the possibility of its return to Android later on.

For their part, many users have expressed their annoyance with the sudden change, emphasizing that quick control of music during driving was not a luxury, but an important safety element, as it reduces interaction with the device while navigating.
