Khaberni -The UAE and the US have signed a joint statement of intent to establish a bilateral cooperation program aimed at accelerating the patent granting procedures in the UAE, during the 66th meeting of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva.
According to the joint statement of intent, signed by both the Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the program provides mechanisms for cooperation to adopt the positive examination results issued by the US office for corresponding UAE patent applications, in accordance with applicable national laws.
Abdullah Al Marri, the Minister of Economy and Tourism, stated that this cooperation reflects the UAE's commitment to enhancing the competitiveness of the intellectual property system in the country by adopting the best international practices, particularly in regard to industrial property, and developing patent registration procedures that meet the aspirations of innovators.
He noted that the partnership with the US represents a new boost to the country's efforts in accelerating patent grants, by enhancing international cooperation and adopting advanced operational models, ensuring faster and more efficient protection for inventors and entrepreneurs, creating an environment conducive to innovation and investment in knowledge and technology sectors.
