Hello We have developed a comprehensive plan for the return of Syrian displaced persons to their country

Khaberni -Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said in the parliament that the government has developed a comprehensive plan for the return of Syrian displaced persons to their country, naming it a safe and sustainable plan.

Salam stated in the parliament that the government will not spare any effort to mobilize Arab and international support to pressure Israel to withdraw from Lebanese territories and stop its aggressions.

He added that the Lebanese army has accomplished much in terms of imposing its authority over Lebanese territories, and we will continue to work on imposing the state’s sovereignty north and south of the Litani.

Salam pointed out that the government's strive to fulfill its commitments is surrounded by pressures, but whatever the case, we renew our commitment to reform and rescue.

Salam mentioned that the safe return of Syrian displaced persons is coordinated between Lebanese and Syrian authorities and international organizations, with over 16,000 requests for return to Syria recorded in the past 10 days, and the number is escalating.

By mid-2025, the number of Syrian displaced persons in Lebanon is estimated to be about 1.4 to 2.1 million, according to various estimates:

Lebanese official statistics indicate about 1.5 million displaced persons, while other sources suggest that the number exceeds 2 million, constituting about a quarter of Lebanon’s population.

The percentage of registered displaced persons at the High Commissioner for Refugees is roughly 700-800 thousand displaced persons.

With the relatively improved security situation in Syria after the fall of the former regime and change of circumstances, a number of displaced persons have started returning to Syria gradually, with about 172,000 returnees from Lebanon from December 2024 to mid-2025.
