Report The Cost of the First Foldable iPhone Will Be Lower Than Expected

Khaberni -The investment firm UBS recently released a note to its clients about the iPhone Fold, Apple's first foldable phone.

According to "UBS", Apple will release a book-style foldable phone, similar to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series, next year.

The analysis conducted by the Swiss company shows that Apple's Bill of Materials (BOM) for the foldable iPhone might reach $759, which is 4% less than what "Samsung" pays for the components of the Galaxy Z Fold SE amounting to $790.

UBS Bank says that "Apple" will be able to save money on memory, application processors, and camera units.

The securities bank expects that "Apple" will set the production of the first foldable phone to be between 10 million and 15 million units.

While initial estimates indicated that "Apple" would price its first foldable phone in the range of $2000 to $2400, UBS Bank says Apple's cost discipline may allow it to price the phone between $1800 and $2000.

It is expected that the sales contribution margins will range between 53% and 58%, the same as the margins of "Samsung's" foldable phones, exceeding the contribution margins of the iPhone 16 series.

The report presented to "UBS" clients confirms previous reports stating that "Samsung Display" will be the main supplier of the 7-inch internal OLED screens for the iPhone Fold.

As "Apple" begins to expand production of its foldable phone, LG Display is also expected to receive some orders from the technology giant.

Among the suppliers of parts, such as the foldable titanium chassis and liquid metal hinge, are companies like "Lens Technology", "Amphenol", and "Foxconn".

Speaking of Foxconn, UBS says it will be the main assembler for the iPhone Fold, while Luxshare will be the secondary assembler.

"UBS" believes that Apple's long-awaited entry into the foldable smartphone market will accelerate the adoption of these devices in smartphones, tablets, and laptops over the medium and long term.

The investment company analysts say that Apple's delay in entering the foldable phone market could be positive for it.

As the foldable phone supply chain has matured and technology has been improved, this not only means that "Apple" has the capability to manufacture a more advanced foldable phone, but it could also do so at a lower price than expected.
