The 22-year-old has been complaining of recurring pain in his left shoulder throughout the past season since suffering a dislocation in a La Liga match against Rayo Vallecano two seasons ago.
The English international will use the off-season period to undergo surgery and return to his team as soon as possible, to be under the command of Xabi Alonso who included him in the last FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, where the player's injury had an evident impact.
