Khaberni -Sudanese activists said on Monday that the Rapid Support Forces killed nearly 300 people in attacks in North Kordofan, which began on Saturday.

The Rapid Support Forces are engaged in battles against the Sudanese army in that region, which is one of the main fronts in the ongoing conflict since April 2023. The army has taken control of the central and eastern parts of the country, while the Rapid Support Forces are working to reinforce their control over the western areas, including North Kordofan.

The legal emergency organization stated on Monday that the Rapid Support Forces attacked several villages on Saturday around the city of Bara, which is controlled by the Rapid Support Forces.

The human rights group documenting atrocities in the ongoing two-year conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces reported that civilians were massacred on Sunday when Rapid Support Forces elements stormed the village of Um Qurfa in North Kordofan, where they also destroyed homes and looted properties.

The organization added that in the village of Shaq al-Nuom, more than 200 people were killed by burning or shooting. Reports indicated that the looting of other villages resulted in the deaths of 38 civilians, while dozens remain missing.

Um Qurfa village is located on a main highway to Khartoum, about 250 kilometers southwest of the capital. The army recaptured Khartoum in March, prompting the Rapid Support Forces to attempt to extend their control over other parts of the country.

This comes as the International Organization for Migration, part of the United Nations, pointed out on Sunday that the escalation of fighting in the region has forced more than 3,000 people to flee from the villages of Shaq al-Nuom and al-Kurdi. Many of them sought refuge in areas surrounding the city of Bara, according to the organization.

The legal emergency organization stated that the next day, the Rapid Support Forces attacked the village of Hilla Hamed, resulting in the deaths of 46 people, including pregnant women and children.

The organization stated: "It has been proven that these targeted villages were completely free of any military targets, which highlights the criminal nature of these crimes committed in total disregard of international humanitarian law," holding the leadership of the Rapid Support Forces responsible.

The United States and human rights organizations have accused the Rapid Support Forces of committing war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Their fighters have carried out a series of violent looting operations in the territories controlled by the forces across the country.

The leadership of the Rapid Support Forces always states that they will bring those responsible for such acts to justice.

The civil war in Sudan has led to the largest humanitarian crisis in the world, causing starvation in more than half of the population and the spread of diseases, including cholera, across the country.

The global decline in spending on aid has increased the pressure on the humanitarian response.

As of the time of writing this story, there has not been any response from the Rapid Support Forces regarding the report of the rights organization.
