Khaberni -The Iraqi Minister of Water Resources, Aoun Dhiab, revealed an agreement between Iraq and Turkey, which stipulates the latter's release of (500 cubic meters/second) of Euphrates River water daily.
At a press conference held today, Saturday, Dhiab confirmed that there are joint committees with both Iran and Turkey continuing to work on securing the country's water shares from both nations.
He added that "Iraq continues to implement the provisions of the framework agreement with Turkey, which includes the Turkish side's execution of infrastructure projects in the irrigation sector and ensuring the continuity of water releases from Turkish territory.
The minister emphasized that Iraq does not actually need to build new storage dams, noting that there are large storage spaces in the existing dams estimated at about 7 billion liters of additional capacity in the Mosul Dam, and 4 billion liters in the Tharthar Dam, in addition to 8 billion liters of additional capacity in the Haditha Dam.
