Khaberni -In a shocking incident that shook the Iraqi public opinion and sparked a wave of anger on social media, the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency at the Iraqi Interior Ministry announced the thwarting of a 4-month-old girl's sale by her parents in Diyala province.

According to an official statement issued by the agency, "precise intelligence information was received by the Organized Crime Fighting Unit in Diyala indicating that a couple intended to sell their infant daughter," and in response, a specialized task force was formed to handle field and technical monitoring of the matter, obtaining the necessary judicial approvals.

The sale deal of the child
The security team succeeded in arresting the parents red-handed while they were attempting to complete the transaction, and the statement revealed that the accused openly confessed during initial investigations to their intention to sell the child for a monetary amount.

The agency noted that the accused were handed over to the relevant investigative authorities, and necessary actions were taken to protect the child and deliver her to the concerned child care entities.

The incident sparked widespread controversy about the economic and social conditions that might push some families to commit such crimes, amid calls for stricter surveillance and enhancement of awareness programs and psychological and social support for impoverished and marginalized families.

In concluding its statement, the Intelligence Agency reaffirmed its full commitment to pursuing anyone daring to jeopardize community security, and to exert more efforts to protect the lives of the innocents, especially children.
