Khaberni -Al-Khabar - Israeli Channel 12 stated that there is a consensus within the Israeli security services regarding the possibility of reaching a deal with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) for the release of prisoners from the Gaza Strip, while a Knesset member stated that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu kills every solution.
The Israeli channel reported from unnamed informed sources that the Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said in closed discussions that military pressure had created appropriate conditions for the return of the hostages, and that Israel should exploit the window of opportunity that has emerged to move forward towards a deal.
Furthermore, the channel clarified that Zamir's statements came following Netanyahu's decision to recall the Israeli delegation from Doha, concurrent with his reinforcement of his public positions.
Nevertheless, there is a consensus within the Israeli security services on the possibility of reaching a deal at this time.
On Thursday, Netanyahu decided to bring back all members of the Israeli negotiation delegation from the capital, Doha, due to "insistence by the Hamas leader Khalil Al-Hayya on obtaining guarantees from the United States to end the war as part of the deal," according to the same source.
The channel stated that due to the collapse of the talks, Israel is preparing to expand the fighting in the Gaza Strip.
Concurrently, Knesset member Ofer Cassif said that there is a proposed prisoner exchange deal that could lead to the release of all prisoners at once.
Cassif affirmed that Netanyahu kills every solution, and that "we must resist the government of death and rejection, and we will not be tools in the hands of the tyrant," according to his expression.
Political Reasons
Meanwhile, the Israeli newspaper Maariv reported from the former Israeli mediator Gershon Baskin that Netanyahu is deliberately obstructing reaching an agreement with Hamas for political, not security, reasons.
Baskin, who was involved in the Gilad Shalit deal negotiations in 2011, informed Maariv that the United States had offered Israel guarantees that could have allowed for ending the fighting stage, but Netanyahu refused them.
On Tuesday, Netanyahu instructed the return of senior members of the Israeli delegation present in Doha for about a week, retaining only technical staff, before directing on Thursday the return of the rest of the delegation members.
The Israeli delegation in Doha included officials from the army, the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet), and Netanyahu’s office.
On Wednesday, Netanyahu stressed at a press conference, his first since December last year, the desire of his country to reach a temporary ceasefire with Hamas, setting unattainable conditions for the Palestinian movement towards ending the war ending with the displacement of Gaza’s Palestinians abroad.
Netanyahu said, "If an opportunity for a temporary ceasefire arises to bring back more hostages, and I emphasize a temporary ceasefire, we are ready for it."
He claimed, "We have already achieved much (from the war objectives), but the mission is not yet finished, we have eliminated tens of thousands of militants and have liquidated top (Hamas leaders), probably also (the leader) Mohammed Deif."
He continued, "Three days ago, I instructed, in coordination with Defense Minister (Yisrael) Katz, to begin a new phase of the war, referring to the large-scale land operation 'Gideon's Cart' in the north and south of Gaza."
He added, "By the end of this stage, all areas of the Gaza Strip will be under Israeli security control, and Hamas will be completely eradicated," he claimed.
Israel had occupied the Gaza Strip in 1967 and then withdrew from it in 2005, dismantling settlements it had established there.
Netanyahu's Conditions
Netanyahu listed his conditions for ending the war, saying "I am ready to end the fighting under clear conditions: returning all hostages, exiling Hamas leadership from Gaza, and disarming Hamas."
The Palestinian factions refuse to disarm the resistance as long as the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands continues.
Netanyahu added that after ending the war on these conditions, "we begin implementing Trump's plan" regarding displacement.
In March, both the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation adopted a plan for the reconstruction of Gaza without displacing Palestinians from it, which would take 5 years to implement and cost about 53 billion dollars.
However, Israel and the United States refused the plan, adhering to Trump's plan to displace Gazans to neighboring countries such as Egypt and Jordan, which the countries refused, joined by other nations and regional and international organizations.
Repeatedly, Hamas has declared readiness to release the Israeli prisoners all at once, in exchange for ending the genocide war, the withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, and the release of Palestinian prisoners.
Israel, with absolute American support since October 7, 2023, has been committing genocide in Gaza, resulting in more than 176,000 Palestinians killed or injured, mostly children and women, with more than 11,000 missing, besides hundreds of thousands of displaced persons.
