IMF Ready to Provide Syria with Advice and Technical Assistance
Khaberni -

Khbarani - The International Monetary Fund announced on Thursday its readiness to provide technical support to Syria following the United States and the European Union's decision to lift sanctions on it.

Julie Kozack, the Director of Communications at the Fund, said, "Our staff are prepared to support the international community's efforts to help Syria rehabilitate its economy as soon as conditions permit."

Syria's economy has been severely damaged by a civil war that lasted for 14 years and ended in December with the overthrow of the regime of the former president Bashar al-Assad.

Kozack stated, "Syria will need significant help to rebuild its economic institutions... We are fully prepared to offer prioritized and targeted advice and technical assistance in our areas of expertise."

She added that the Fund expects the lifting of sanctions to support Syria's efforts in overcoming economic challenges and advancing reconstruction efforts.

The IMF last assessed Syria's economic policies in 2009.
