Khaberni - Jorge Jesus, the new coach of the Portugal national team, today, Friday, announced his first list since taking charge, which witnessed the call-up of star Cristiano Ronaldo to participate in the UEFA Nations League matches.
At 41 years old, Ronaldo continues his journey with the Portuguese national team despite announcing that the 2026 World Cup was his last participation in a World Cup, without yet determining when he will retire from international play.
The Portugal captain has 233 international matches and 146 goals in his record, making him the all-time leading scorer for his national team.
Ronaldo's return to the squad under Jesus' leadership comes after the Portuguese coach worked with the veteran star in Al Nassr, where they led the team to win the league title last season.
Jesus previously managed several Portuguese clubs, most notably Benfica and Sporting Lisbon, before moving to coach the national team.
Jesus' squad included 25 players, among them Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leao, Vitinha, and Joao Felix, alongside Ronaldo, and also featured some new faces like Samuel Soares, Nuno Tavares, and Fabio Silva.
The Portuguese national team begins its journey in the Nations League by facing Wales at home on September 24, before visiting Norway on September 27, then meeting Denmark on October 1, and hosting Norway again on October 4.
The call up of Ronaldo confirms his continued career with the national team, after he left his international future open following Portugal's exit from the 2026 World Cup against Spain in the Round of 16.
