Khaberni - Studies have demonstrated that people with high levels of emotional intelligence are less prone to job burnout, and they exhibit higher levels of leadership skills and work efficiency.
Psychologists from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the USA have ended a longstanding debate regarding the role of emotional intelligence in human life. A wide-ranging analysis published in the scientific journal "PNAS" has confirmed a strong and stable relationship between advanced emotional skills, general well-being, professional achievements, and good health. This stands as one of the most comprehensive statistical reviews in the history of this subject, gathering a massive amount of data from various parts of the world.
A Study of a Million People
The concept of emotional intelligence refers to an individual's ability to understand their own emotions and those of others, in addition to effectively managing them.
To assess the true significance of this phenomenon, researchers analyzed 62 previous meta-analyses, which included more than 3,000 individual studies and involved over a million participants of different ages and cultures.
The analysis showed a statistically significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and 77 different indicators of success in life.
Impact on Career Path and Personality
This effect was most notable in the professional field, as individuals with high emotional intelligence demonstrate superior leadership skills, perform their job duties better, and are less likely to experience professional burnout.
Furthermore, the researchers compared these results with the classic "Big Five" model of personality traits. It was found that emotional intelligence predicts an individual’s well-being with the same level of reliability. Moreover, in many aspects, it surpasses big five traits such as extraversion and conscientiousness in predictive power.
Methodological Challenges and the Role of Artificial Intelligence
Meanwhile, the authors of the study point to an important methodological limitation, as the relationship between emotional skills and success is strongest when both variables are measured through self-reported questionnaires. When scientists apply objective cognitive tests with right and wrong answers, the strength of the discovered relationship significantly decreases.
