Khaberni - Dr. Mohammad Al-Khalayleh, the Minister of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs, and Holy Places, said that "The Baqa'awi Tree," known as "The Prophet's Tree, peace be upon him," is linked to a historical narrative that refers to the journey of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, to the Levant in his childhood.
Al-Khalayleh clarified in statements today, Saturday, that the Prophet, peace be upon him, who was about twelve years old at the time, accompanied his uncle Abu Talib on a trade journey to the Levant via the caravan route leading to Busra, and the caravan rested in the Baqa'awi area under this tree.
He added, the story mentions that the Prophet, peace be upon him, and his uncle sat under the tree, before meeting the monk "Bahira," who recognized the Prophet's traits, peace be upon him, through what was mentioned in the previous heavenly scriptures, and noticed that the tree's shadow was leaning towards him.
Al-Khalayleh pointed out that the monk realized from these signs that this boy was destined for greatness, so he advised his uncle Abu Talib to return him to Mecca, for his protection and care.
He noted that "The Baqa'awi Tree" has remained present in the historical and popular memory, as one of the sites associated with the story of the Prophet's passage, peace be upon him, during his journey to the Levant.
