Khaberni - FIFA President, Swiss Gianni Infantino, extended his congratulations to Lionel Messi on his remarkable international career following the Argentine legend's announcement of his international retirement.
Infantino said in a message posted on his "Instagram" account: "Congratulations, Lionel Messi, on this extraordinary international career that has inspired millions and redefined beautiful soccer!"
Infantino continued, showcasing the Argentine star’s achievements: "2022 World Cup champion, the most capped and top goal scorer in Argentina's history, as well as holding the record for most World Cup matches played ever.. Your magical talent and humility will forever be remembered."
Concluding his message, the FIFA President thanked Messi, stating: "Thank you for every unforgettable memory as you defended the colors of the Argentine national team, and for uniting fans in every corner of the world. I wish you all the best and success in your next chapter."
Earlier today, Monday, Messi announced his retirement from international play after 21 years of brilliance with "Los Gauchos".
Messi was recently crowned with his national team with two Copa America titles in 2021 and 2024 in addition to the 2022 World Cup title, and lost the 2026 World Cup final against Spain by a score of 1-0 after an extension into extra time on July 19th.
Before these achievements, "Leo" lost with the Argentina national team three consecutive finals at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and the Copa America in 2015 and 2016, which prompted him to announce his international retirement at that time due to extreme pressure, before deciding to continue his journey with the Tango.
