Khaberni - The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned today, Saturday, the Israeli occupation forces' targeting of a civilian car in the village of Beit Jinn in the southwest of the country, which resulted in several injuries among civilians.
Injuries were recorded following a bombing carried out by an Israeli drone targeting a car on the road in Beit Jinn's farm, in the town of Beit Jinn in the western Damascus countryside.
Earlier, the official Syrian news channel reported that a person was injured in the attack without specifying his health condition or identity.
The statement from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated, "We condemn in the strongest terms the targeting by an Israeli drone of a civilian vehicle on the road to Beit Jinn's farm - the village of Beit Jinn in the western Damascus countryside."
The Ministry continued in its statement, "We hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the consequences of these repeated attacks and their continuation will likely increase tensions and instability in the region."
The ministry renewed its calls for the international community and the Security Council to "assume their legal and political responsibilities and to act to stop the attacks and end the repeated Israeli violations of Syrian sovereignty."
The Israeli army stated that its forces fired in southern Syria at someone it described as a "terrorist who posed a direct threat to it," according to its claim.
The Israeli army radio quoted a source saying that the person targeted in Syria "was planning to detonate an explosive device against the Israeli forces," according to his claim.
Just yesterday, Friday, Israeli forces penetrated, west of the town of Rafid in Quneitra province, southwest Syria, and on Wednesday morning, Israeli forces stormed a town in Quneitra province, arresting two people.
It is noted that the town of Beit Jinn and its surrounding area in the Damascus countryside has been subjected to several attacks and incursions by Israel over the past months, including air raids, artillery bombardments, and ground movements, most notably an attack in late November last year which resulted in 13 deaths, in addition to raids around the town in December last year, before the renewal of Israeli incursions in the area this month.
The attack comes amidst an Israeli escalation following the targeting of Abu al-Duhur Airport in Idlib, northern Syria, last week under the pretext of the presence of Turkish forces there, which Ankara denied.
Syria seeks to reach a security agreement with Israel, as President Ahmad al-Shar’ stated on July 26 last year that his country is working, with the participation of countries, to conclude such an agreement, adding that if successful, it would pave the way for comprehensive peace without compromising Syria’s rightful claim to the occupied Golan.
Areas in southern Syria witness nearly daily Israeli incursions and attacks, including raiding operations, inspections, arrests, and establishment of military checkpoints.
Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights, and exploited the overthrow of the Bashar al-Assad regime in late 2024, announcing the collapse of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, occupying the Syrian buffer zone and other locations, including the Syrian side of Mount Hermon.
