Khaberni - Lebanese President Joseph Aoun emphasized the necessity of pressuring Israel to adhere to the framework agreement signed between the two parties under American sponsorship.
Aoun's remarks came during his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni in the capital Rome, on the second day of his official visit to Italy, according to a statement issued by the Lebanese presidency.
The statement mentioned that both sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to develop them, along with discussions on general developments in Lebanon and the latest field developments in the south.
Aoun appreciated the Italian support for Lebanon and Rome's hosting of the tripartite negotiations, praising the Italian role in efforts to establish security and stability in southern Lebanon.
The meeting also addressed the phase after the current mandate of the United Nations Interim Force (UNIFIL), which has been deployed in southern Lebanon since 1978 under Security Council resolutions to monitor the situation and maintain stability.
The mandate of the international force is scheduled to end by the end of this year, with its withdrawal completed by 2027, amid Lebanese insistence on the presence of an international entity to assist in monitoring field conditions.
In the context of the visit, Aoun met Italian President Sergio Mattarella to discuss bilateral relations and regional situations, in the presence of the Lebanese ambassador to Italy Carla Jazzar.
These meetings come amid attempts to implement the terms of the "Framework Agreement" reached on June 26th.
Israeli military attacks and operations continue on various Lebanese areas, which the Lebanese authorities see as a barrier to the redeployment of the Lebanese army in the south.
According to the latest data from the Lebanese Ministry of Health, Israeli attacks - since March 2nd - have resulted in the deaths of 4,348 people, and injuries to another 12,307.
