Khaberni - Israeli security and military sources warned that the situation in the West Bank resembles a “powder keg” due to the settlers' violence against Palestinians, while occupation army officers refuse to deter the aggressors, fearing for their military career, at a time when settlers are effectively leading military operations in the West Bank.
A senior security source told the Hebrew newspaper "Haaretz" that "the entire West Bank stands on a powder keg that could explode at any moment."
He added that "the ongoing acts of violence committed by settlers in the region, not only in the town of Qusra south of the Nablus governorate in the northern West Bank, exhaust the occupation forces that protect the attacks to the utmost extent."
He confirmed that "the behavior of the high military command in the field shows a deliberate incapacity to confront the settlers."
The newspaper cited sources in the Central Command of the occupation army, saying that there is "a state of paralysis among the leadership who fear taking any step against the settlers that might be interpreted as politically motivated."
According to them, "the paralysis starts from the command leader Major General Avi Blot, through the division commander, and up to the brigade commanders."
The sources added that "many officers eligible for promotion prefer to avoid taking firm actions against the settlers, fearing it might harm their military careers."
Earlier on Wednesday, "Yedioth Ahronoth" reported that Washington demanded "Israel" to provide explanations regarding the violence of the settlers against Palestinians in the town of Qusra.
According to the newspaper, U.S. administration officials during talks with Israeli officials said they were "shocked" and questioned the background.
It continued, stating: The Americans raised tough questions about whether there is chaos and how it is conceivable that the terrorism by settlers could continue
Meanwhile, the Hebrew channel "Kan" reported that "the incapacity of the Israeli security establishment to confront the settlers in the town of Qusra is causing concern to the American administration."
It pointed out that the White House was busy on Wednesday with the events "after close contacts of President Donald Trump concluded that Israel is not taking actions against the violence in the village."
It said that "a senior White House official is scheduled to make contact with the office of the Prime Minister of the occupation, Benjamin Netanyahu, regarding the issue."
The channel 12 reported that the settlement outpost established by settlers near the homes of two Palestinian families was evacuated on Wednesday morning, but it mentioned that the settlers returned in large numbers and re-established it hours later.
Three Palestinian families continue, for the fifth day in a row, to live in isolation within their homes in Qusra, after settlers pitched tents and closed the road leading to them, in a step aimed at forcing them to leave their homes.
The Israeli organization "B'Tselem" warned that attempts to displace Palestinian families and take over their homes in Qusra come as part of what it described as "ethnic cleansing" in the West Bank.
The organization pointed out that "since October 2023, Israel has displaced 64 complete Palestinian settlements and parts of another 15 settlements, resulting in the displacement of more than 4,800 Palestinians, including more than 2,300 minors."
On July 22 last year, settlers took over the home of the Mahmoud Tubasi family in the adjacent village of Jalud, after besieging it for more than three months.
