Khaberni - Imdaad, an Emirati company, has entered the Jordanian environmental services market through a joint venture with Clean City, a subsidiary of the Al Nasser Group, as part of a ten-year partnership to operate cleaning services and collect and transport waste in several areas of the capital, Amman.
The total value of the project is about 1.58 billion Emirati Dirhams (approximately 430 million US dollars), making it one of the largest waste management and environmental service projects in the region, at a time when it targets to develop waste collection operations and enhance the efficiency of municipal services through the introduction of modern technologies and operational systems.
The project marks Imdaad's first expansion into the Jordanian market, as the partnership combines its regional expertise in facilities and environmental services management with the local expertise of Clean City in areas of cleanliness, waste management, hazardous waste treatment, and electronic waste recycling.
1.72 million tonnes of waste annually
Under the agreement, the joint venture will undertake municipal cleaning services and waste collection and transport in a range of areas in the capital, including Ras Al Ain, Al Quwaysimah, Abu Alanda, Khreibet Al Souq, Jawa, Yadoudeh, Um Qusair, Al Muqabalein, Al Bnayat, Wadi Al Seer, Badr Al Jadida, Sweileh, and Marj Al Hamam, along with other areas within the project's scope.
The project is expected to manage about 1.19 million tonnes of municipal waste annually upon commencement, with the amount expected to increase to more than 1.72 million tonnes annually by 2035, setting the project up for a large operational scale in one of Jordan’s major cities.
The project also includes employing smart technologies and advanced operating systems in waste collection and management processes, aiming to increase operational efficiency and improve service levels, alongside supporting a shift towards recycling and resource recovery, and applying the principles of a circular economy.
More than 1000 job opportunities
The project is expected to create more than 1000 job opportunities, concurrently with developing the operational infrastructure for cleaning and waste services in the areas covered by the agreement.
The project follows an agreement established by the Amman Vision for Treatment and Recycling (AVTR), the executive arm of the Greater Amman Municipality in developing the waste management sector, as part of a broad scope project to assign the operation of cleaning services and solid waste management to the private sector.
According to the two companies, the partnership seeks to leverage modern expertise and technologies in waste management, develop local capabilities in the sector, and enhance solutions related to recycling and resource recovery.
First expansion of Imdaad in Jordan
Imdaad's entry into the Jordanian market is part of the Emirati company's strategy to expand into the regional markets, as it has over four decades of experience in facilities and environmental services and sustainability management.
Imdaad was founded in Dubai in 1986, and is wholly owned by the Dubai Government Investments Corporation, operating in the UAE, Sultanate of Oman, and Egypt, with more than 15,000 employees from over 45 nationalities.
Conversely, Clean City was established in 1967 and operates in the Jordanian market in areas of cleanliness, waste management, hazardous waste treatment, and electronic waste recycling, in addition to manufacturing specialized environmental equipment.
The partnership provides both parties with an opportunity to combine Imdaad's regional expertise and Clean City's local knowledge in a project targeting the development of the waste management sector in Amman and enhancing the efficiency of services provided to residents, parallel with increased focus on sustainability, recycling, and resource recovery.
