Khaberni - Prince Ali bin Hussein, President of the Jordan Football Association, called for the abolishment of the secret voting system in the FIFA presidential elections, considering that global football faces a "clear crisis in leadership" ahead of the upcoming presidential elections.
Prince Ali said in a post on the "X" platform that having undergone this experience before, he believes that the immediate step to be taken is "the removal of secret voting in the presidential elections."
He added that all other decisions, including the selection of host countries for the World Cup, are now made openly, while presidential elections remain the only exception.
He emphasized that open voting is the only way to ensure accountability of the national associations’ presidents to football fans, officials, and players who elected them, noting that it also provides protection for the national associations from any pressure or coercion that may be exerted on them to make decisions behind closed doors, as has happened in the past.
Prince Ali stressed that adopting transparent voting would enable each national association to freely play its role in the "most important vote" concerning the leadership of the world's largest and most famous sport, and determine its future direction.
