Khaberni - The German Ministry of Defense announced on Thursday that it will pull two ships from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean "in the coming days" while Britain condemned the attacks launched by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Saudi shipping vessels.
A spokesman for the German Ministry of Defense told "France Press" that the mine sweeper "Volda" and the supply ship "Mosel" are currently in Djibouti.
The two ships were sent last month to participate in a potential mission in the Strait of Hormuz following the end of the war between the United States and Iran.
However, the German Ministry of Defense explained that they will be moved, attributing this to "the volatile political situation... and the absence of any expected start of operations in the near term" in Hormuz.
It added that keeping the ships in the region indefinitely "places a burden on their technical systems."
The German Ministry of Defense clarified that the two ships will remain "in readiness to deploy" and will return to the region "as soon as reliable indicators for the imminent start of the mission become available."
On its part, Britain strongly condemned on Thursday the attacks carried out by the Iran-backed Houthi rebels on Saudi shipping vessels, which led to a significant increase in oil prices.
The British Foreign Office stated in a release that "these reckless actions endanger lives, threaten an environmental disaster, and threaten regional stability, in flagrant violation of international law."
It added via the X platform "We stand with Saudi Arabia and urge the Houthis to stop" launching attacks.
The conflict between Iran and the United States escalated in recent days, and on Thursday, the Iran-backed Ansar Allah Houthi group launched an attack from its controlled areas in Yemen on two Saudi ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthi group said its forces launched attacks with missiles and drones on two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, indicating in a statement that the tankers are Insilia and Layla.
A source in maritime security stated that Insilia sent a distress signal and reported being targeted by a missile near the Saudi port of Jazan in the Red Sea late Wednesday evening.
The Saudi Press Agency reported that the tanker Insilia was targeted, causing a fire at the front of the ship. Trump referred to two attacks targeting Saudi tankers.
The Houthi attacks could lead to the closure of the Bab al-Mandab Strait, vital for navigation from the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, which is the second most important passageway for energy shipments in the world after the Strait of Hormuz.
