The company stated that it is "working tirelessly to find solutions" to this problem, but the question is: when can prices start to decrease, if at all?
The only certainty is that the situation will not improve anytime soon. The prices of random access memory are expected to continue to rise significantly this year and next year, according to a report by the technology news site "9to5Mac," which was reviewed by "Al Arabiya Business".
While some hope for prices to start declining by 2028, a recent analyst report indicates that any decrease will likely be limited.
The report suggests a potential price increase ranging from 40% to 45% annually, with prices not beginning to fall until 2028, when new production capacities enter representing about 15% to 20% of the supply.
However, this increase in production might not be as impactful as expected, because the demand for artificial intelligence and computing capabilities will continue to rise.
In other words, the expected increase in supply ranging between 15% and 20% could be completely absorbed due to the continuous growth in demand from artificial intelligence data centers.
Apple also hoped to get approval from President Donald Trump's administration to purchase memory chips from two Chinese companies currently listed on the US restrictions list, but this endeavor is unlikely to succeed.
Memory chip manufacturers plan to increase production capacity, but implementing this takes a long time. The Financial Times reported that investment plans span over 15 years, while the construction of already scheduled factories extends until 2030.
What is expected for Apple?
Unless Apple can find an unexpected solution, it is hard to imagine that the company will be able to reduce prices in the next few years without sacrificing its profit margins.
By that time, the new prices will have become the norm, and the company will have no incentive to lower them unless there is a sufficient decline in demand to make this move feasible.
In summary, there are no strong indicators to be optimistic about a decrease in Apple device prices in the foreseeable future, and certainly not by the amounts that have been seen.
For those planning to purchase an Apple product over the next year or so, it might be better to consider buying early, as long as some external stores still sell these products at the previous lower prices.
