Khaberni - The former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikha Hasina, announced her intention to return to the country this year, confirming that she does not fear the death sentence issued against her in Bangladesh.
Sheikha Hasina said in an interview with the Indian television channel NDTV: "I want to make this absolutely clear: I will return to my homeland this year, overcoming all obstacles and conspiracies."
She added: "The sentence issued against me has nothing to do with justice. It is part of an illegal, unconstitutional process driven by political motives. The judicial system has turned into a tool of political repression, aimed at removing the Awami League from power. Similar attempts have been made before, and they have failed then, and they will fail again."
According to the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, her party "Awami League," which was banned in Bangladesh, "has begun to recover."
In July 2024, Bangladesh was swept by anti-government protests actively participated in by students, who were outraged by the high unemployment rates and the lack of economic prospects. The riots and clashes between the demonstrators and the police resulted in the deaths of about 1,400 people. On August 5, 2024, Sheikha Hasina left for India.
A court in Bangladesh had convicted Sheikha Hasina of "crimes against humanity" for the violent security campaign against the student uprising that overthrew her government, and sentenced her to death.
