Khaberni - The Israeli occupation artillery bombarded the village of Abidin in the western countryside of Daraa, south Syria, on Sunday evening, after an earlier incursion of its vehicles in the Yarmouk Basin area. Meanwhile, the Syrian Foreign Ministry called on the United Nations and the international community to put an end to these violations and ensure respect for the disengagement agreement.
Syrian sources reported that the occupation artillery bombarded the village of Abidin amid an Israeli escalation, after the villagers confronted a patrol that included several occupation vehicles and blocked its path with stones earlier.
The sources explained that the artillery shells fell on agricultural lands belonging to Abidin, coinciding with the flight of helicopters which targeted the outskirts of the village with machine guns and dropped thermal balloons over the skies of the Yarmouk Basin.
A reporter from the "Syria Now" platform mentioned a massive displacement of the people from Abidin towards neighboring areas, confirming the continued state of tension and the flight of Israeli aircraft in the skies of the area and even over the rural Quneitra.
In the same context, the commander of civil defense operations in southern Syria stated that “the Israeli bombardment did not result in injuries or material damage, but caused a state of panic and fear among the villagers, leading to a limited displacement to neighboring towns.".
He added to the Syrian News Agency (SANA) that "civil defense teams are currently transporting, securing, and caring for the displaced families from the village of Abidin to nearby towns, amid the flight of the occupying forces' drones.".
SANA previously reported that the Israeli occupation forces fired at the villagers while retreating from Abidin in the western countryside of Daraa.
An Israeli force consisting of 5 military vehicles had penetrated into the village of Abidin, set up checkpoints on the road leading to the village of Jumla, moved from the area of al-Mughr west of the village, and set up a new checkpoint near Siryat Jumla, about 200 meters away from a checkpoint established last Saturday, and stopped passers-by including children for inspection.
SANA added that the occupation forces prevented civilians from leaving Abidin towards Jumla, and fired in the air to intimidate the villagers, without reports of injuries or arrests.
The Syrian news channel reported that the occupation soldiers targeted their team with bullets while covering the incursion of the occupation patrol in Abidin.
Damascus calls for a halt to the violations
Damascus strongly condemned the Israeli aggressions represented in incursions inside Syrian territories in the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa, the artillery shelling of the area, and the resulting terrorization of civilians in a blatant violation of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity, a new breach of international law, the United Nations Charter, and the 1974 disengagement agreement.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a statement carried by SANA, said that the continuation of these aggressive practices undermines efforts aimed at establishing security and stability, increases the suffering of civilians in the targeted areas, and threatens with further escalation and tension in the region.
The statement added, "The Syrian Arab Republic calls on the United Nations and the international community to take on their responsibilities and take the necessary measures to end these repeated violations and ensure respect for the disengagement agreement, thus preserving Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity.".
In the past few months, Israeli aggressions in Syria have escalated, including raids and searches of civilian homes, setting up checkpoints, and arrests targeting civilians including shepherds and children.
Following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's regime on December 8, 2024, Israel declared the collapse of the 1974 forces separation agreement and took control of the Syrian buffer zone.
