Khaberni - Dr. Alexander Myasnikov points out that the sudden onset of difficulty breathing, accompanied by swelling in one of the legs, may be an indicator of pulmonary embolism.
Myasnikov stated that among the prominent warning signs of pulmonary embolism are the appearance of swelling in one of the legs accompanied by difficulty breathing, explaining that this may indicate a blood clot traveling to the lungs, leading to the blockage of a branch of the pulmonary artery, a condition that poses a risk to life.
He added that coughing up blood, along with a sudden drop in blood oxygen saturation in the absence of known lung diseases, are other indicators of this condition.
He mentioned that failing to diagnose and treat pulmonary embolism in a timely manner may lead to death within a short period.
He explained that pulmonary thromboembolism occurs as a result of the blockage of the pulmonary artery or one of its branches with a blood clot that has detached from the veins of the lower limbs, emphasizing the need for immediate initiation of anticoagulant therapy in patients diagnosed with this condition.
