Khaberni - Although Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and several members of his government welcomed the US-sponsored Israeli agreement with Lebanon, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir condemned the agreement.
While Netanyahu celebrated the agreement, describing it as a "historic achievement" based on its role in resetting the rules of engagement on the northern front, Ben Gvir considered it a "grave mistake," questioning Lebanon's ability to disarm Hezbollah.
Ben Gvir strongly opposed signing this framework agreement in Washington, saying "The agreement with Lebanon is a big mistake. Although we still control most of the territory, the Lebanese state will not disarm Hezbollah."
In an attack on the Lebanese authority, Ben Gvir adds in a comment published today, Saturday, on the Telegram platform, "Some ministers of the Lebanese government belong to Hezbollah and Lebanon cannot be trusted to confiscate Hezbollah's weapons."
He went further by emphasizing the role of the Israeli occupation army in destroying Hezbollah, saying, "Only the soldiers of the Israeli army are capable of destroying Hezbollah, and no other party will do this instead of us."
Ben Gvir revealed his approach to request the Israeli Prime Minister to hold a vote on the agreement inside the cabinet before signing it.
Earlier, Benjamin Netanyahu, during a press conference today, Saturday, praised the Israeli agreement with Lebanon, noting that it dealt a blow to Iran and Hezbollah.
Netanyahu said, "We reached a historic agreement for the State of Israel after direct negotiations between Israel and Lebanon," adding, "This is a blow to Iran and Hezbollah."
Possible Escalation
Commenting on this agreement, an Israeli security source, in statements given to Yedioth Ahronoth, warned of the possibility of Hezbollah launching attacks against the Israeli occupation army.
The source confirmed that the Israeli occupation army is preparing for a possible escalation by Hezbollah in the northern sector, believing that Hezbollah "will not sit idle" after the signing of the Israeli-Lebanese agreement.
The source stated that the Israeli occupation army is ready for escalation "if Hezbollah takes steps to disrupt the agreement," highlighting that Washington "will not allow Iran and Hezbollah to sabotage the diplomatic process."
The Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Naim Qassem, announced today, Saturday, his rejection of the Israeli-Lebanese agreement, opposing its clauses that link Israel's withdrawal from Lebanon to the disarmament of Hezbollah.
He stated in a written statement that the terms of the agreement in fact legitimize the Israeli military presence and "cross all red lines."
The framework agreement agreed upon, last night Friday in Washington, provides for Israel's withdrawal from some areas of southern Lebanon in phases, with the deployment of the Lebanese army. However, it allowed Israeli forces to remain in an extended security area for the time being, until further steps are completed.
